A little bit about me...

Hello there! Well, I was brought up in a little village called 'Sandness' situated on the westside of Shetland.

I've always been quite creative (Art and Music were my FAVOURITE subjects at school!) and therefore decided to persue this creativeness as some sort of career.

I studied Contemporary Textiles at Shetland College UHI and then made the big move to Dundee where I achieved a 2:1 Honours Degree in Textile Design (yay!) specialising in weave, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design.  I got the opportunity after graduating to return to DJCAD as a weave lecturer/technician, where I taught some lovely students.

Since returning to Shetland I have been working for knitwear designer Joanna Hunter in her fabulous shop and studio 'Ninian'.

I've always wanted to set up my own business and finally launched 'Morwenna Garrick Textile Design' in November 2014!

I'm all grown up and married now and living on the east side of Shetland with my gorgeous husband, but I still make the journey to Sandness to my little weaving studio where I can get lost in colour and yarn.  If you fancy taking the winding road full of hills and sheep to Sandness (its a beautiful place and well worth a visit), then do pop along my studio for a peek at what I do.

Oh...I did continue with music too as I still play the clarsach (harp).  I'm a big fan of the 1950s, dream of going to New York at Christmas also a fitness instructor and I am the proud owner of a very handsome Dachshund called Bernie.
